Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join our healthcare team in Boston. As an RMN in a prison healthcare setting, you will play a critical role in providing mental health care to incarcerated individuals, ensuring their well-being while adhering to the unique challenges of a correctional facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mental Health Assessment and Care:

    • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments of inmates, including screening for mental health disorders and risk assessments.
    • Develop and implement individualized care plans for inmates with mental health needs, providing therapy, counseling, and medication management as required.
  2. Crisis Intervention:

    • Be prepared to respond to mental health crises within the prison, including assessing and de-escalating situations.
    • Coordinate with the healthcare team to ensure the delivery of timely and appropriate mental health care.
  3. Collaboration and Consultation:

    • Collaborate with the prison's mental health team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, to develop and implement treatment plans.
    • Provide consultation to other healthcare staff on mental health matters as needed.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain detailed and accurate mental health records, documenting all patient interactions, assessments, and treatment plans.
    • Prepare and submit reports as required by prison healthcare policies and regulatory agencies.
  5. Prison Security and Safety:

    • Comply with all prison security measures and safety protocols.
    • Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with inmates and prison staff.
  6. Infection Control:

    • Implement strict infection control measures to prevent the spread of diseases within the prison population.
    • Promote and educate inmates on proper hygiene and disease prevention.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
  • Previous experience working as an RMN, preferably in a mental health or correctional healthcare setting.
  • Possession of prison clearance is mandatory.
  • Strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a secure and potentially challenging environment.
  • Knowledge of mental health assessment tools, therapeutic interventions, and best practices in correctional mental healthcare.
