Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and qualified Pharmacy Technician to join the healthcare team at Stoke Heath Prison. The selected candidate must hold valid prison clearance, as this role involves providing pharmaceutical services within a secure correctional facility. As a Prison Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the medication management and healthcare needs of inmates.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the prison's pharmacist in dispensing and preparing medications accurately and efficiently, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure safe and timely medication distribution to inmates, adhering to security measures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medication records, both in paper and electronic formats, to ensure proper documentation of dispensing activities.
  • Perform pharmaceutical calculations and conversions to prepare medications in the correct dosage forms.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of pharmaceuticals, including controlled substances, in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Conduct inventory management, including regular stock checks, ordering medications and supplies, and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Respond to medication-related inquiries from healthcare providers, inmates, and prison staff, providing accurate and timely information.
  • Participate in medication counseling and education sessions for inmates, promoting proper medication adherence and understanding.
  • Assist in the coordination of medication reviews, monitoring for drug interactions, allergies, and potential adverse effects.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and secure pharmacy environment by following security protocols and procedures.
  • Adhere to privacy and confidentiality guidelines when handling sensitive inmate health information.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of pharmacy-related reports as required by the prison administration and regulatory authorities.

Requirements:

  • Valid pharmacy technician certification from a recognized institution.
  • Proof of prison clearance to work within a secure correctional facility.
  • Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a healthcare setting, preferably within a correctional or institutional environment.
  • Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations, drug dispensing procedures, and medication management.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and guidelines related to controlled substances and medication safety.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication preparation and documentation.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with healthcare providers, inmates, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Familiarity with electronic pharmacy systems and inventory management software.
