2020 marks the first Year of the Nurse and Midwife, as designated by the World Health Organisation to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale - perhaps one of the most influential figures in the history of nursing. This year will celebrate the work and commitment of nurses and midwives, as well as promoting these professions to future generations. The aim is to boost the profile of nursing jobs in the UK and across the globe.

It is no secret that the healthcare industry has been plagued with tales of growing staff shortages and lack of resources, so this recognition could not come at a better time - not only to invest heavily in the nursing and midwifery sectors, but also to improve perceptions and increase understanding of what a career in nursing can offer.

Nursing has evolved dramatically since the days of Florence Nightingale, so this year the World Health Organisation will work to tackle stereotypes about nursing jobs and expand the public knowledge of nursing practices. This is a chance to showcase the amazing contributions that nurses and midwives make to our healthcare system, along with the impact they have on the lives of patients and their families.

As a leading recruitment agency for nurse jobs and midwife jobs, Mayday Healthcare have extensive experience within the healthcare industry, so here’s our list of ways you can get involved in 2020: The Year of the Nurse and Midwife;
