Charles Safapour’s experience as a prison officer proved useful when he and Nick Poturicich founded Mayday Healthcare in 2003 to provide round-the-clock emergency medical staff for prisons. Prisons still account for a third of the company’s business. Its other clients include Harley Street hospitals and NHS trusts that need staff in a hurry. Mayday was founded with funding put up by Kevin Coyle of Coyle Personnel, who owns the company. Surging demand for specialty nurses has helped the London company grow sales 119% a year from an annualised £1.1m in 2004 to £11m in 2007. |
